The statistics employed for data analysis were Rank based quotient. Lack of transports facilities to visit the farmer's field was given first rank by the respondents related information input behaviour, constraints in information processing are 'less resources for developing visual aids' was on first position followed by Non availability of materials for preparation the communication aids the major constraints information output are unfair Political interference in all activities andNo physical/infrastructural facilities.

The study was conducted in Dharwad, Gadag, Belagavi, Haveri, Vijayapur, Bagalkot and Uttar Kannada districts of northern Karnataka. The Ex-post-facto research design was used for the study. The total sample size for the study was 280 extension personnel. The findings the study revealed that with respect to perception of the usefulness of convergence of line development indicated that 42.14 per cent of extension personnel strongly agreed with Taluk Implementation Committee (TIC)/ Block Technology Team (BTT) are the inter departmental technical team working at taluk level to converge all the stakeholders to prepare block action plan (BAP) and coordinate the implementation of extension programmes. Pertaining to the perception of the usefulness of decentralized planning, more than fifty per cent (52.50%) of extension personnel strongly agree with decentralized planning ensures to maintain systematic linkages among all the stakeholders in disseminating the relevant technologies for the overall development of the farmers. With respect to perception of the usefulness of capacity building of extension personnel shows that more than fifty percentage (54.29%) of the respondents strongly agreed that SAMETI provides human resource development support in innovation areas to extension functionaries of all stakeholders. With regard to the perception of the usefulness of cafeteria of activities of ATMA more than half percentage (57.14%) of extension personnel agreed with organising agricultural exhibitions at district level helps to create awareness about improved technologies of crops and allied enterprises. Nearly sixty per cent (58.93 %) of extension personnel belonged to medium perception category, whereas, 22.86 per cent of extension personnel belonged to the high perception category.

Agricultural development is a complex, continuous and multidimensional phenomenon which involves the major actors i.e., researchers, extension and farmers who are continuously engaged in development, dissemination and adoption of modem technologies. In fact, all of them have a common goal of achieving productivity at the farm level and thereby contributing to national economy.

Perception as the interpretation of sensory experience in the light of past knowledge, information and experience. Perception is a process in which meaning is attached to sensory experience. It is an integrated process in which attention, sensation and attachment of meaning are involved in an unbroken sequence. In the present study, the perception was operationalized as meaningful sensations of extension personnel about the usefulness and other relevant aspects of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA). The study aims to develop a scale to measure the perception of the usefulness of ATMA by extension personnel. As s first step in the construction of scale, a set of 5 components namely convergence of line development departments, decentralized planning, capacity building of extension personnel, group approach and cafeteria of activities these are most relevant to measure the perception of the usefulness of ATMA by extension personnel were identified through the review of relevant literature and consultation with the scientists/ specialists engaged in the field. The final format of the scale consists of five components and 52 statements. Since the components of perception were identified through the review of relevant literature and discussion with experts in the concerned field, the content validity was very much ensured. The reliability of the scale was tested by employing the split-half method.

The study was conducted to know the of attitude of extension personnel towards facilitation under Agricultural Technology Management Agencies. For that purpose an attitude scale was constructed. Total 200 samples were selected by using simple random sampling without replacement. But only 120 respondents returned their filled in questionnaires which were accepted for final analysis. The findings showed that majority of respondents (69.17%) had moderate level of favourable attitude towards facilitation. Attitude of extension personnel towards facilitation had negative and significant correlation with 'age' and 'service experience'. A positive and significant correlation was observed between 'educational qualification'. On the other hand attitude of extension personnel towards facilitation had positive and significant correlations with 'educational qualification' and 'knowledge on andragogy' and 'knowledge on group dynamics'.

Agricultural development is a precondition of our national prosperity. Role of State Agriculture Department is very important in formulating and implementing the different schemes and policies suitable for development of agriculture in respective states in India. The present study aimed towards exploring constraints faced by extension personnel in strengthening extension system. The study was conducted in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra state including 110 extension personnel of State AgricultureDepartment. The study revealed that the more than half of extension personnel were facing most severe constraints in input supply, administrative, financial aspects which were inadequate input supply (53.64%), diversified duties and assignments (55.45%),no compensation or incentives for additional work (55.46%), respectively. The other most severe constraints were less chance for promotion and non availability of residential quarters faced by more than half (56.36%) of the respondents. The constraintswith medium severity were observed in aspects like Extension and Training aspects, Management aspects, Technical aspects, Communication and human relations and Physiological aspects vi^ no supply of training literature (46.36%), target oriented approach(50.91%), unavailability of latest agriculture literature (53.64%), inadequate audio- visual aids (52.73%) and high tension due to mental and physical work (39.09%), respectively. The important suggestions obtained from the extension personnel which werepre-seasonal need based training (77.27%), multifarious duties and assignments should be minimized (80.90%), timely availability of advanced technologies (78.18%), supply of critical inputs in required quantity and on time (75.45%), restriction of additional charge (52.72%), monetary incentives for additional work (72.72%) and timely promotions (80.90%) can help to improve their job performance and strengthening extension system.

The paper analyses the trends in area, production and yield of potato during 1950-51 to 2006-07 in India. The growth in value of output from potato and its comparison with fruits and vegetables and total value of output from agriculture was estimated during 1999-2000 to 2005-06 in major potato growing states in India. Apart from this the export of fresh or chilled potatoes in reliable markets and structural changes in composition of various products of potato were also predicted till the end of XIth Five Year Plan by using Markov Chain approach. The study observed that the annual compound growth in area, production and yield was lowest in post-WTO period (1997-2006) in comparison to any sub-period or entire period of the study. The analysis of the export composition of potato products reveals that the share of potatoes, fresh or chilled, and potatoes other than seed potatoes, fresh/chilled, declined while share of flakes, granules and pellets of potatoes had increased substantially during 2003-07. Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates are projected as reliable markets for potato products till the end of XIth Five Year Plan. The study suggests that to strengthen potato production ensure positive growth in yield and to sustain in world markets in exports of potato products there is a need to focus on reliable markets and demand driven products, bring about changes in research priorities and strengthen the linkages among researchers, extension personnel and policy planners.
